1. Add your comments

2. Adjust
Runs in your browser. Your comments are not uploaded or stored anywhere.
3. Your word cloud
Your word cloud appears here.
A word cloud shows what is common, not what people meant
- “Not safe” and “safe” count as the same word.
- Shade, shady and trees for shade are split into separate words.
- One person repeating a word ten times can outweigh ten people saying it once.
- The group that never responded is invisible.
Use the cloud as a first look. For a report you can stand behind, group comments into themes and keep the comments behind each one. This is what that looks like in CE Canvas:

243 survey responses grouped into six themes, with the comments behind each one.
How it works
How to make a word cloud from survey responses
Built for consultation and survey feedback: it shows the comments behind every word, not just the cloud.
- Step 1
Add your comments
Paste one comment per line, or upload a CSV and pick the column with the responses. Copying a column from Excel or Microsoft Forms results works too.
- Step 2
Adjust
Remove common filler words, switch to two-word phrases, or leave out words that appear in every comment, such as the name of the project.
- Step 3
Read behind the words
Click any word to see how many separate comments use it and what people actually said.
- Step 4
Download
Save the cloud as a PNG for a slide or report, with the comments behind it to quote alongside.
Questions
Common questions about word clouds
Is the word cloud generator free?
Yes. There is no account to create, and your comments are processed in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored.
How do I make a word cloud from survey responses?
Export the responses from your survey tool, copy the column with the open-text answers and paste it in, one response per line, or upload the export as a CSV and choose the column. The cloud updates as you adjust the settings.
How do I create a word cloud in Word?
Word has no built-in word cloud. Paste your text here, download the PNG, then in Word choose Insert, then Pictures. Our step-by-step guide also covers Word add-ins.
How to create a word cloud in WordCan I make a word cloud from Excel or Microsoft Forms?
Yes. Open the results in Excel, copy the column with the comments and paste it in. You can also save the sheet as a CSV and upload it.
Are word clouds a good way to analyze feedback?
They are a useful first look, not an analysis. A word cloud counts words, so "not safe" and "safe" look the same, synonyms are split, and one person repeating a word can outweigh many people saying it once. For a report you can stand behind, group comments into themes and keep the comments behind each theme.
How to do thematic analysis of community feedbackWhat does "comments" mean next to each word?
Mentions count every time a word appears. Comments count how many separate responses use it at least once, which is usually the better measure of how widely something was raised.
From a word cloud to themes you can stand behind
CE Canvas groups every comment into themes, keeps the comments behind each one and drafts the what we heard report, with your team signing off before anything is shared.
