1. What do you want to learn?

Optional, but it lets EVA check that your questions will actually tell you this.

2. Add questions

Or start from an example

  • How satisfied are you with the amount of shade in the park? · Satisfaction
  • How satisfied are you with the cleanliness of the park toilets? · Satisfaction
  • How important is it to you that the park has more shade trees? · Importance
  • How important is it to you that the off-leash dog area is kept? · Importance

Good questions start with the decision

CE Canvas helps teams plan engagement against their framework before anything goes out: what is open to influence, who needs to be heard and what each activity must find out. Then it brings every response back into one record and groups it into themes, with the comments behind each one.

How it works

How to build Likert questions that measure what you need

  1. Step 1

Say what you want to learn

One line about the decision your survey informs. It lets EVA check that your questions will tell you what you need.

  2. Step 2

    Add questions

Write your own or start from 50+ examples for community and council surveys.

  3. Step 3

    Choose the response scale

Agreement, satisfaction, importance, frequency, likelihood, quality, support, confidence or safety, as 4, 5 or 7 points, with an optional "Don't know".

  4. Step 4

    Check the wording

Quick checks flag double-barrelled, leading and negative wording as you type. EVA by CE Canvas reviews the whole set.

  5. Step 5

    Copy into your survey

Copy straight into a Microsoft Forms Likert question, copy as text for any survey tool, or download a CSV.

Questions

Common questions about the Likert question builder

Is the Likert question builder free?

Yes. Building, checking and copying questions is free with no account. Your questions are saved in your browser. Downloading a CSV asks for your email once.

What does the EVA check look for?

EVA by CE Canvas reviews each question for leading or double-barrelled wording, negatives, jargon and response options that do not fit the question, and, if you say what you want to learn, whether the set of questions will actually tell you that. You decide what to change.

Will it work with Microsoft Forms, Google Forms and SurveyMonkey?

"Copy for Microsoft Forms" groups questions that share a scale into one Likert grid, ready to paste as columns and rows. "Copy as text" and the CSV work with Google Forms grids, SurveyMonkey matrix questions and most other survey tools.

Are my questions stored?

No. They are kept in your browser. When you run the EVA check, the questions and your objective are sent for that check only and are not stored.
