One of the most important questions in community engagement gets asked far too late: is this actually an engagement project? Real engagement has one non-negotiable condition. Something meaningful must still be open to influence. When it is not, the work may still matter, but it is communication, consultation or implementation planning, and calling it engagement makes a promise the process cannot keep. This session walks through how to test that early: mapping the decision space, separating what is fixed from what is open, and choosing the right process from there. We will work through examples using the free CE Canvas project assessment tool.
